Tawny Owl Bathing

Owls need to keep their feathers in good condition to ensure that they remain soft for silent flight and to remove any mites and dirt. This clip shows a tawny owl having a bath. Note how the feathers begin to absorb the water. Owls do not have the same level of waterproofing as other birds.
Against The Odds
An truly inspiring video which illustrates how a pair of barn owls worked to fledge an unusually large family of 8 chicks during one of the wettest summers on record. Watching the parents delivering rats and voles to the fledglings illustrates how important small mammals are to barn owls, and how vital habitats for these small mammals are to barn owls’ survival, particularly in the breeding season. Despite the efforts of the parents in this video, the likelihood is that many of the chicks will not survive to breed the following year as a result of starvation, road mortality etc

This moving story is complimented by a stunning soundtrack by Katherine Jenkins - my deepest thanks to the creators for sharing this fantastic piece of filming with us all on YouTube.
