Red Kites of the Elan Valley - an illustrated talk by Owl Conservationist Ian McGuire

They are one of the most attractive birds of prey, extremely aerial in flight and fascinating to watch at close quarters.

This opportunity is given at the Red Kite Feeding Station in Rhayader, Powys, Mid-wales where the kites are fed every day and over three hundred can be seen In the sky on some days.

This talk looks back at the near extinction of Red Kites in the UK, schemes to stop persecution that tool place in the 1900’s and how re-introduction to Wales began an incredible recovery in numbers.

Have you ever wondered what the coloured wing-tags mean? We look at the coding system that helps researches keep track of the breeding population.

Comprising of many spectacular pictures, we also take a look around the nearby Elan Valley and at some of it’s landmarks.

An enjoyable talk on this wonderful bird and guaranteed to please.

‘Red Kites of the Elan Valley’ is a talk that I always enjoy giving.

The reason for this is that if you have never seen a Red Kite in the wild, you really don’t know what you are missing, but this talk will give you a good idea!
