Owl walks

Wild Owl is not a charity, but is a South Gloucestershire based enterprise run by dedicated owl conservationist Ian McGuire.

A freelance speaker and specialist bird of prey photographer, I have been an active campaigner for the conservation of owls and other birds of prey for over ten years.

I can be booked by clubs, local authorities, farming groups, schools etc. and offer a range of fascinating, educational owl talks and walks for both adults and children. Click here for details of my services.

I hope that you find this web site a useful resource for information on British owls. It is always in development and new sections are added regularly every few months.

If you have any particular enquiry then please e-mail me and I will be very happy to offer advice.

NEW - Wild Owl News Archive

Owls and other birds of prey are at the top of the food chain and regarded as an indicator species. They are a barometer of the health of the environment and wider environmental issues have a huge impact on their populations in Britain.
Anyone who cares about wild birds of prey will also have a keen interest in the conservation of other species and their habitats and so the Wild Owl web site now includes an archive of news reports from various sources, featuring important environmental issues. Although the archive will have a bias towards birds of prey, it will also feature significant stories about other wildlife issues.

Conservationists like myself concentrate their time and effort on educating on birds of prey issues, but like many conservationists, I feel enraged that so many governments do not make the simple link between safeguarding all species and habitats around the globe, with our own long-term survival. Species that are forced to the edge of extinction are just regarded as ‘collateral’ by some bodies, and the news sometimes makes depressing reading.

Click here for the archive pages, which also includes the BBC Science and Nature RSS reader with the very latest environmental news bulletins.
