Bristol-based freelance owl conservationist Ian McGuire

Home

As a wildlife photographer and filmmaker I have enviable access to thousands of owl photographs and hours of High Definition video that is exclusive to me - this makes my presentations extremely colourful and fascinating and is a very strong element of my visits - the WOW factor. I am confident that there are few people in my field that offer the powerful combination of knowledge, personality and multimedia that I use, particularly in schools.

I have appeared on national television on a number of occasions both as a guest and guest presenter and regularly appear on the radio to talk about owls, as well as the local press.

In addition to my experience as a speaker, I am also a qualified support worker for adults with Learning Difficulties and have worked with Downs Syndrome, Autism, Learning Difficulties and other disabilities. This has proved to be valuable training and experience for some of my Wild Owl work and I always encourage my customers to make me aware of any people, particularly children that have any disabilities so I can adjust my delivery to cater for them - this is very important for the child/adult and is also very important for me too as I want everybody to get the most from my visit!

In my spare time I play keyboards in a local covers band Tundra and also act as DJ for a fortnightly disco in a club for adults with Learning Difficulties!

I am fully insured and CRB Checked and provide risk assessment paperwork where required..

Hello, and thank you for visiting my web site www.wildowl.co.uk. My name is Ian McGuire and I am based in Yate, South Gloucestershire, which is in North Bristol.

I am a freelance owl conservationist and public speaker and I teach children and the wider public about wild British owls, how amazing they are and things we can do to help them. In 2013 I was ‘Highly Commended’ by Bristol Zoo as a Local Conservation Educator.

Leaving a management career in 2006 to form Wild Owl, I have given over 1000 talks to a wide variety of groups, clubs and schools all over the region. I have established a reputation in wildlife circles as a knowledgeable and dedicated bird of prey conservationist who works hard to raise public awareness about the conservation of owls as well as other birds of prey and wildlife.

In recent years I have specialised in teaching children about wild owls and how to help them and now have an increasing demand for my services in primary schools all over the South West.
